Michael Bergt| SUN-M-BERGT | Drawing
Sunday, September 27 | 9am – 12pm | $95 + tax
Because early printmaking techniques were limited to the use of lines, artists who wished to reproduce their work were compelled to devise a way to create subtle value changes, and to describe forms using only lines. One of the greatest masters of this technique was Albrecht Durer—rather than seeing the use of line as a limitation, he embraced cross-hatching as an art form.
Cross-hatching became a means of reflecting the artist’s hand, his gestures in defining form and building values. As unique as a fingerprint, cross-hatching blends to reproduce how our hand and eye can see and interpret form. Both structural and poetic, the lines combine to “fool the eye” into seeing value where only layers of lines exist. The artist is slowly “carving” the forms with lines.
In this hands-on workshop, you will learn how to create drawings with clean, distinct and articulate lines – the kind you find in Michael Bergt’s artworks. Learn how to make a 3-dimensional object composed into 2-dimensions
Michael will demonstrate several techniques for how to use lines to create form and value to show different types of lines, shapes, lengths and spacing to create effects. Basic drawing tools will be provided but students are welcome to bring their own special things if they want.
